The Mayflower

The Past determines the future. America’s future began with the landing of the Mayflower.  On December 18, 1620, the British ship Mayflower lands at modern-day Plymouth, Mass. and its passengers prepared to begin their new settlement, the Plymouth Colony. Those passengers decided to write their governing document, called TheMayflower Compact. This document was the beginning.  The full text of the Mayflower Compact is as follows:

In the name of God, Amen. We, whose names are underwritten, the Loyal Subjects of our dread Sovereign Lord King James, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, King, defender of the Faith, etc.:

Having undertaken, for the Glory of God, and advancements of the Christian faith, and the honor of our King and Country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the Northern parts of Virginia; do by these presents, solemnly and mutually, in the presence of God, and one another; covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil body politic; for our better ordering, and preservation and furtherance of the ends aforesaid; and by virtue hereof to enact, constitute, and frame, such just and equal laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions, and offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the general good of the colony; unto which we promise all due submission and obedience.

Study that document, it contains the foundation.

Today, I am honored to have with me one of the most respected Professors of United States history in our nation. For reasons which will be clear, he asked his name not be published. For this discussion, he will be Professor Warren.

Warren, the first sentence in this compact, (the constitution of the United States is also a compact), it lays the foundation for all; Having undertaken, for the Glory of God, and advancements of the Christian faith. how was this
